Editing Alerts

To edit the information associated with an alert:

  1. Select the interface in the tree pane.
  2. Edit the information in the properties pane.
  3. If you wish, assign doors (outputs) to the alert. Each door will be unlocked when the alert triggers. The door need not be a real door, but could be a warning siren or light.

ID

The Display Name is used to uniquely identify the alert to you.

The     Test!     button allows you to check what happens when the alert is triggered.

Trigger

Use the drop-list to set the trigger for the alert. Where relevant you will be prompted for additional details, which can be redisplayed or changed using the     Details...     button. You may also have to assign the alert to the object(s) that trigger(s) the alert.

Visual Alert

Use this to display an on-screen message when the alert is triggered.

Rollcall

To print a rollcall when the alert is triggered, either check p Print rollcall on default printer, or check p Print rollcall on and select a specific printer using the droplist. The default printer is the one that is normally selected whenever you select File...Print for the first time in any application.

Email

To send an email when an alert is triggered, either check p Email, or check p Email user. The latter option will send the email to the Access Manager user selected using the associated droplist, providing you have completed the email address field for that user. Enter the message you want sent into the Email Text box (maximum 255 characters).

Email Transport

Access Manager needs to know how to send the email. If you have a working email client on the Access Manager PC, and it is "MAPI compliant" (eg Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express), selecting ¤ Use default (MAPI compliant) email application on this PC is the simplest method of doing this. You may find when you test the alert that the emailer asks you if it is OK for Access Manager to send the email. If there is a p Don't show this message again option and you are not worried about the risk that your emailer may be hijacked by malware, you should check it. If there isn't such an option, or you wish to retain this security feature, you will have to select ¤ Use SMTP server. This second option allows you to send an email via a public or private SMTP email server. You need to provide the server address (either a URL or an IP address is acceptable), the account name Access Manager will use to login to the server, the account password, and who the email will appear to be from. This last entry should be of the form Display Name<name@foo.bar> or name@foo.bar, eg Access Manager<accesscontrol@fosterseeley.com>. You will need to ensure that your firewall does not block Access Manager (see the documentation for your firewall).
