Replacing Hardware

In the event of a piece of hardware failing, clearly you will need to replace it. Some items of hardware have a unique serial number to allow the system to distinguish them from similar items, so a simple hardware swap is not possible. In this case you should replace the hardware as any other piece of hardware, but then you should tell Access Manager about the change. If there is more than one piece of hardware to replace, it is recommended that you replace one item at a time, informing Access Manager after each change.

To physically replace the hardware you should:

  1. Make sure the Search for new controllers when going online option is set if changing a controller.
  2. Shut down Access Manager, or disconnect from the controllers.
  3. Power down the relevant controller.
  4. Replace the hardware.
  5. Restore the power and wait for the readers to be detected (each will turn amber and then green).
  6. Run Access Manager and load the database, or reconnect to the controllers.
  7. Wait for the hardware to be detected.

To tell Access Manager about the change, you should then either run the hardware replacement wizard and follow the instructions, or complete the following steps:

  1. Select the old hardware (this will be greyed-out, but you will find it easier to locate if you have given each item of hardware a recognisable Display Name).
  2. Press the     Replace...     button in the properties pane.
  3. Select the new hardware from the list.
  4. Press     Finish    .
  5. Confirm your request when prompted.

Access Manager will then take the necessary steps to complete the hardware swap.
